Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of The CW Torch. Today, I will be sharing my Magical ReadAThon TBR, which is hosted by Booktuber G from Bookroast. Normally, the readathon is Harry Potter related but this time G created her own little world called Aeldia. The first part of the ReadAThon is the Novice Path where the main goal is to get to the magical school, the Orilium Academy. For more information on this really cool and in depth readathon, here is the announcement video to learn more about it because it's really freaking cool.

I will select books for each location/prompt of this portion of the ReadAThon but because school is starting on August 30th, tomorrow, my goal is to complete two books, and if I finish more that would be great. I will also be using one of my own book characters for the character creation portion of this ReadAThon as well, and I will describe her at the end of this blog.

The Novice Path prompt and books to read:

The Novice Path Entrance: Read a Book with a Map

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Mass

I was going to chose the final book of the Nevernight series, Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff for this prompt. But I am still currently reading A Court of Wings and Ruin, which I definitely will not finish by September 1st. So I will finish this book for this prompt because there are at least four maps at the beginning of this book.

I will not post the synopsis for this book because it is the third book in this series. But here is the link to the synopsis of the first book if you would like to read that (I will include links to the synopsis from goodreads for each book if you would like to read more about the books).

Ashtorn Tree: A Book that Keeps Tempting You (Top of your TBR)

Circe by Madeline Miller

I recently read The Song of Achilles because I've been wanting to read Circe for a very long time. I was told to read The Song of Achilles first because certain characters from The Song of Achilles are mentioned in Circe. I finally read The Song of Achilles a few months ago and absolutely loved it, so I'm very excited to finally read Circe.

The Mist of Solitude: Read a Standalone

The Maidens by Alex Michaelides

This book has been circling around Booktube a lot recently, and in September I want to read a lot of atmospheric/dark academia books because the Fall season is approaching. I heard this book has a lot of murder and mystery, and is potentially set in a school setting. So to me those elements are perfect for this ReadAThon and for the month of September.

Ruin of the Skye: Read a book featuring ghosts/haunted house, or other supernatural elements

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I've been wanting to read Silvia Morena-Garcia books for a while now, especially because a lot of them involve some sort of Supernatural or hints of magical elements within them. They are supposed to be very atmospheric, dark, and a little creepy. So I thought this book would be perfect to read for this ReadAThon as well as for the month of September.

Obsidian Falls: Read a thriller or mystery book

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

To be honest, I didn't have many mysteries or thrillers on my TBR that I wanted to read at the moment. So It was really difficult to chose a book for this prompt. But I figured what better time then to try and read Big Little Lies. I don't know if I'll regret this because I've watched the show before reading the book and absolutely loved the show. So, I'm a little nervous about not liking the book as much. But, I am excited to read the original storyline and to see if it's any different from the tv show. I also think this book is perfect for September because of the mystery element, as well as the small beach town setting. Which are particular settings I love reading around this time of year.

Tower of Rumination: Read a 5-Star prediction

Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston

I've heard so many amazing things about this book recently, that I'm honestly really excited to pick it up. I think this will be the first book I will read for the ReadAThon, because it's been catching my eye recently. Which is strange to say considering I don't read a lot of Middle Grades. But because I've heard so many good things from people of different ages, it really has me excited. I feel that it will definitely be a 5-star read and if not potentially a very high 4. Also, how can you resist this gorgeous cover?

Orilium Academy: Book with a school setting

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

I've been meaning to read Naomi Novik books for a while now, but for some reason I keep putting them off and I have no idea why. I'm really interested in the world of the Scholamance series, but have heard mixed reviews about this particular book. However, the school setting and the magical elements perfectly fit this prompt and these are the exact kind of books I love to read during the Fall season. So I'm hoping that I will enjoy this one, because it's got a lot to live up to in my eyes.

Character Creation

So as mentioned earlier, I am going to use one of my own characters from one of my current work's in progress that I am writing. for the Character Creation portion of this ReadAThon. Her name is Cessarine Dumond, and while her actual story is very different from this world she will be doing a bit of role-playing in this setting.

She comes from an urban city in the continent of Darkmeadow, and she is actually part Elf and Ithirian, and the lunar phase at birth was the Blood Moon. For the Certification at Orilium Academy she will be trying to obtain Master certification.

*If you want more information on the continents, people, and history of this world. Then check out the announcement video for this ReadAThon I listed in the beginning of the blog. There is a google drive where you can learn all about this incredibly detailed world.

Now for our character creation we will have to complete a few prompts that coincide with the character's background, province, and heritage. We don't have to complete these prompts until April, 2022. So I will be completing these books throughout the rest of the year since September is pretty stacked already.

Background- Urban: Book set in a city or town

Lore by Alexander Bracken

Recently, I've been really in the mood to read Greek/mythology retellings, and this book has been on my mind since it came out. But I haven't really had the opportunity to read it. So, I figured this would be the perfect book to fulfill this prompt since it is set in New York City.

Province- Darkmeadow: Read A Dark Academia

So, there are a lot of Dark Academia's that I could read for this prompt, especially a few that have come out recently. I am not too sure which one I will pick up for this. There are two recent releases that I have in mind which are How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao and Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé. But, I also started reading The Secret History by Donna Tart last year and ended up putting it down because it was a bit intense for me to read at the time. However, I am interested in completing it and now might be the time to do so.

Heritage- Elf: Moon or Stars on the Cover

Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Morena-Garcia

Another book by Silvia Moreno-Garcia that I've been wanting to read for a long time, and really the only book on my physical TBR that had stars on it. However, that's not the main reason I picked this book, because it is one that I've been meaning to read. Now that I finally have a physical copy, it's the perfect time to read it.

Cessarine is also part Iteirian, so I am not sure if I will have to read that heritage prompt as well. So I will ask in the discord channel. If I do have to read the prompt for Iteirian it is to read a book with a crow on the cover or title, or a red cover book. I will have to see what I can chose for this prompt as well if I have to read this prompt. So, I may ask for some recommendations in the discord channel for that, and if I do have to read it I will reveal the book in my reading vlog.

There you have it folks, that was my TBR for September's Magical ReadAthon. I'm honestly really looking forward for this ReadAThon, because it's so detailed and you could tell the host G put a lot of effort into this one. So, I'm extremely excited to be participating in it again, and to hopefully complete all the books on my TBR! I hope you enjoyed this post, and don't forget to check out my YT channel as I will be vlogging my ReadAThon experience throughout the month of September!

Thanks for reading!

XOXO,
