Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of The CW Torch! In honor of Valentine's Day, and the premiere of Bachelor Winter Games. I thought it would only be fitting to do a Bachelor Book Tag, which I came across on Booktube from shemightbemonica. Here is the link to her original tag.
I have decided to change the questions a little bit, and added a few of my own. I thought this would be a fun tag to do, considering things are heating up in Bachelor world. So, without further ado, let's get into the books!
1) First Impression Rose- A book that you bought because of the cover.

The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima
This was a difficult question for me, because I normally don't by books based on the cover. I almost always have to read the synopsis, to see if it intrigues me enough to buy. But, one book that I thought about buying, before reading the synopsis, was The Demon King (book one of The Seven Realms series) by Cinda Williams Chima. I had seen this book around Booktube a little bit, but very little people have actually discussed the synopsis. So, I didn't know much about it, when buying it. I immediately fell in love with the cover, because it reminded me a bit of The Neverending Story, and it also didn't really give anything away of the story. Which most covers try to do, so I was immediately intrigued.
Synopsis:
Times are hard in the Mountain City of Fellsmarch. Reformed thief Han Alister will do almost anything to eke out a living for himself, his mother, and his sister, Mari. Ironically, the only thing of value he has is something he can't sell. For as long as Han can remember, he's worn thick silver cuffs engraved with runes. They're clearly magicked-- as he grows, they grow, and he's never been able to get them off.
Han's life gets even harder after he takes a powerful amulet from Micah Bayar, the son of the High Wzard. The amulet once belonged to the Demon King, the wizard who nearly destroyed the world a millennium ago. With a magical piece so powerful at stake, the Bayars will stop at nothing to reclaim it from Han.
Meanwhile, Raisa ana'Marianna princess heir of the Fells, has her own battles to fight. Although RaisaRaisa aspires to be like Hanalea- the legendary warrior queen, who killed the Demon King and saved the world. But it seems that her mother has other plans for her -- plans that include a suitor who goes against everything the queendom stands for. The Seven Realms will tremble when the lives of Han and Raisa collide.
This book sounds like a mix between The Lord of The Rings, Game of Thrones, and The Shannara Chronicles. The Seven Realms series is one that I can't wait to get into, and to see if it was worth giving the first impression rose.
2) Two on One Date- Your favorite and least favorite book of a series (original). Your favorite and least favorite books, you read last year (Updated).
Favorite: A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

I think you guys understand why A Darker Shade of Magic is my favorite book, and series of last year, as I can't stop mentioning it on my blog. So, I don't even think I need to express to you why it deserves the rose on this two-on-one date. I also don't think you need to know the synopsis of this book, since I have mentioned it so many times before. A Darker Shade of Magic, has easily become one of my favorite books and series of all time. Everyone should read it. And Kell will always be the one to get that final rose!
Least Favorite: Coral and Bone by Tiffany Duane

The reason why I won't be giving Coral and Bone the rose, on this two-on-one, is because it truly was a let down. It had all the signs of an amazing date, the plot-line of evil mermaids and sirens, was intriguing, the cover was really cool, and it started off pretty great. But, about half-way through the story, it really dragged on and was incredibly boring. Nothing seemed to make sense, and I just simply didn't have a connection with it. So, I had to break it off, before I became too invested in it. Leaving the pages unfinished, and heartbroken in my kindle.
Synopsis:
Halen knew the sparks igniting under her fingertips are dangerous. She has spent her entire life trying to quell the tingly feelings that make her destroy things, but now that she is back in Rockaway Beach, where she watched her father down, the flames have become impossible to tame. Halen is trying to hold on, but when she is thrust into a mysterious new world, the underwater realm of Elosia, she unravels the secrets of her past and can't help but ignite. As she explores Elosia, she realizes her life has been a lie. And when those who have deceived her come to her for help, Halen must choose -- walk away or unleash the magick that could destroy them all.
3) The Wrong Reasons - A book that starts off strong, but ends up a hot mess.

The Witches of The Glass Castle by Gabriella Lapore
When I first read this book, it started off really great, and had all the qualities I loved in a book. It had magic, witches, strong family ties and friendships, and even a magic school. But, during my reading process, I became quickly out of love. A part from the love interest and strong family bonds of this book, it wasn't really making a whole lot of sense. There was no clear understanding of the magic system, and even the magic school wasn't a true magic school in my eyes. I quickly became uninterested in the novel, not only because of the lack of editing, but also because of the lack of world building. When this was a book that really needed world-building and understanding of a magic system. I soon realized, that I was trying to like it for all the wrong reasons.
Synopsis:
Mia's life is thrown through a loop when she discovers her family secret -- that she and her brother Dino are witches. After they are sent away to study their craft, they begin down a path that will change their lives forever. Suddenly, thrust into a world where handsome warriors command the power of nature and people's thoughts and actions can be manipulated at will, Mia and Dino struggle to navigate their own allegiances and do what they know to be right when everything around them seems beyond their control.
4) Bachelor in Paradise - Your favorite light and fluffy read (original). Your favorite summer romance read (updated).

Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
I read this book a long time ago, but to me it is the perfect summer romance read. But really, any book Nicholas Sparks writes, is the perfect summer romance read. I specifically chose Dear John, because it takes place in the summer in a sunny, seaside town. I also remember loving the love-interest in this book, a lot. This book is an oldie, but a goodie, and perfect to read on a warm Summer's Day, outside on the beach or out in your backyard. And writing about it, makes me want to read it again, preferably in the Summer.
Synopsis:
An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life-- until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leave Savannah wanting for JOhn to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah feeling in love with someone else. Dear John, the letter read... and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home John, must come to grips with the fact that Savannah is now married, is still his true love-- and faces the hardest decision of his life.
5) Bachelor Winter Games - The perfect Winter read. (added question)

The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye
To me, this book is the perfect Winter read, because of it's setting and plot. The Crown's Game is set in a fictionalized Imperial Russia, where magic exists. I always think of Winter, whenever a book is set in Russia, because it is cold there all the time. And this book certainly made me feel like I was in Wintery Russia, all due to Evelyn's beautiful writing style. I also thought this book was fitting for The Bachelor Winter Games, because there is a magical competition between the two main characters. And one of the characters could literally conjure snow! You might want to grab your fuzzy blanket, and start your fires, because you are in for one cold treat, with this one!
Synopsis:
Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters -- the only two in Russia -- and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side. And so he initiates the Crown's Game, an ancient duel of magical skill -- the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar's most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.
6) The Most Dramatic Season Ever- A book with a totally insane roller coaster ride plot, that had your draw dropping.

Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
This book was another one of my favorites of last year, mainly because of it's twisting and turning plot. I literally was at the edge of my seat, the entire time when reading this book. I had no idea where the author was going to take us, and was completely surprised by the end of the mystery. I thought I knew how this book was going to end, based on the short synopsis on the back, but I was completely wrong. This is one book that will have Chris Harrison saying, The Most Dramatic Season Ever, over and over again.
Synopsis:
He murdered women in cold blood. He terrorized an entire city. He taunted those of us who hunted him down. But despite all these horrors, in the end, I could not deny it... II was the girl who loved The Ripper.
7) The Fantasy Suite- A book that has the best romantic build up and release.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
The second book of The Court of Thorns and Roses series, is the epitome of the Fantasy Suite date. There is so much sexual-anticipation, and romantic build-up in this book, making it very steamy read. That when the romance finally does happen, it is extremely worth the wait! As it doesn't happen until page 400 and something, and it's a 600+page book.
Synopsis:
I won't delve into too much of the synopsis of this book, since it is the second it's series. But, it is a Faerie YA fantasy series, and a retelling of Persephone. A Court of Thorns and Roses is the first novel of the series, and is a retelling of the Norfolk ballad of Tam Lin as well as Beauty and the Beast.
8) Hometowns - Your favorite book that is all about family and long-lasting friendships (Added Question).

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertelli
I read this book only a few weeks ago, and it has easily become one of my favorite books of all time. It is such a sweet story all about first-time love, family bonds, and friendships. I enjoyed every aspect of this book, and the main reason why it reminded me of the hometown dates on the Bachelor. Is because of it's importance on family bonds and friendships. I absolutely adored how our main character, Simon, spoke about his relationship with his family. Not to mention the fact that him and his family, literally have Bachelor nights, where they watch the Bachelor together, and even Skype in one of his sister's to watch with them. I also loved the relationships he had with his closest friends, they seemed very real, authentic, and extremely relatable. While Simon may be unavailable, he is certainly someone that I'd want to take home to meet my family!
Synopsis:
Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier, prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed; if he doesn't play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone's business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he's been emailing, will be compromised.
9) The Final Rose - Best Book you read in the last month.

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco
The Final Rose goes to Audrey Rose. I recently finished Hunting Prince Dracula, by Kerri Maniscalco, and absolutely loved it. This is the second book of Stalking Jack the Ripper, and like The Shades of Magic series, has easily become one of my favorite series of all time. I absolutely loved the historical fiction mystery of Prince Dracula. The setting was written to perfection, as I felt I were in the haunted halls of Brasov Castle, along with Audrey and Thomas. Trying to solve the murders within the castle, side-by-side with them. Audrey Rose has become one of my favorite characters of all time, mostly because of her way of thinking. She is very intelligent, analytical, and doesn't need a man to think for her. Which are main female characters, we don't get too often in Young Adult novels. I also loved the romance between our main character, and Thomas Cresswell. I thought they were incredibly witty with each other, and the flirtation was both adorable and very swoon-worthy.
Synopsis:
Hunting Prince Dracula is the second novel of this series by Kerri Maniscalco. Following shortly after the events of Jack the Ripper, Audrey and Thomas attend a school of science and medicine, in Romania. Where another mystery begins to unfold, relating to Vlad the Impaler or is also known as Vlad Dracula.
Well, there you have it folks, my Bachelor Book Tag. I had a lot of fun writing this tag, and hope to do more in the future! Let me know who you think will get the Final Rose on Arie's season of The Bachelor? I was rooting for Sienne, but now I think it'll be Becca K. in the end!
TTFN, and Happy Reading!
