Hello everybody, and welcome back to another edition of The CW Torch. Today, I will be talking about the books I am most excited about, that are being released in the month of March. There are a lot of books coming out this month, some of which I need to buy like right now! So, without further ado, let’s talk about the books! State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury (March 1st)

Synopsis (goodreads): A people cowed by grief and darkness. A cut-throat race for power and victory. A girl with everything and nothing to lose… Sorrow all but rules of the Court of Tears, in a land gripped by perpetual grief, forever mourning her brother who died just days before Sorrow was born. By day she governs in place of her father, by night she seeks secret solace in the arms of the boy she's loved since childhood. But when her brother is seemingly found alive, and intent on taking control, Sorrow has to choose whether to step aside for a stranger who might not be who he claims to be, or embark on a power struggle for a position she never really wanted. Why I Need It Now: The synopsis of this book really gripped me, and almost read like a Superhero comic. But a part from the synopsis, this world of sorrow and grief, seems very interesting and original. I am really interested in seeing this world come to life, one which seems extremely dark and melancholy. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (March 6th)

Synopsis (goodreads): Zelie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orisha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, Majiwere targeted and killed, leaving Zelie without a mother and her people without hope. Now, Zelie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zelie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good. Danger lurks in Orisha where snow leoponairies prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zelie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for the enemy. Why I Need it Now: I have been hearing so many amazing things about Children of Blood and Bone, way before it was even released. That it couldn’t not make this list. The one thing I am most excited for this book, is the world in which it is set in. Children of Blood and Bone is set in an African-inspired world of magic, which sounds absolutely incredible and stunning. I have not read too many books inspired or set in Africa, which is very interesting, because you would think that there would be a lot more books set in this vast world of nature vs. man. Regardless, I am so excited to dive into this world, and will probably be buying this book by the time I post this blog. The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw (March 6th)

Synopsis (goodreads): Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow.. Where two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town. Now, for a brief time this summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring bodies into the harbor and pulling them under. Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of her sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into. Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters. But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself. Why I Need it Now: The synopsis of this book is what really intrigued me at first, and was the main reason as to why this book made this list. I love anything having to deal with Witches, especially Witches of historical matters, such as the Salem Witch Trials. The Wicked Deep seems to have similar vibes of those terrible times in history. It also seems like a more dark version of Hocus Pocus, which I am totally all for! Pacifica by Kristen Simmons (March 6th)

Synopsis (goodreads): Marin is corario royalty, a pirate like her father and his father before him. Sailing the ocean to chase adventures is in her blood. But these days no one cares that the island town her people call home is named after her grandfather. They have a new leader, one who promises an end to their hunger — and one who thinks that girls are meant for the kitchen or the brothel. Marin knows she's meant for more than that, and with the sudden influx of weapons on the island, and rumors of a pending deal with the enemy oil nation in her wake, she knows a big score to gain the council’s favor is the only way to save her people, and herself. Ross lives a life of privilege. As the president’s son he waits for nothing, but he longs for a lifetime of adventure. On a dare, he convinces his best friend Adam to sneak out to the docks, the site of local race riots between the poor Shorelings and the upper class. But when Adam is arrested along with the other Shorelings, and not even the president is willing to find him, Ross finds himself taking matters into his own hands. He journeys back into the Docks, ready to make deals with anyone, even a beautiful pirate if it means Adam’s safe return. When Marin and Ross meet in dangerous Shoreling territory, he sees a way to get his friend back and she sees her ticket home. The ransom a president’s son would command could feed her people for years and restore her family’s legacy. But somewhere in the middle of the ocean, Marin must decide if her heart can handle handing over the only person who has ever seen her for more than a pirate. Why I Need It Now: Another book I have heard very little about, but sounds very intriguing to me. After reading A Darker Shade of Magic, I have been more and more into pirates recently, trying to find more books with pirates as the main characters. When I saw this book, I knew I had to add it to my TBR, especially since our main character is a female pirate. I also love a good book of adventure, across the vast and beautiful ocean. While I don’t particularly like long synopsis’, this one definitely packed a punch, and enticed me from beginning to end. Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles (March 20th)

Synopsis (goodreads): When Marvin Johnson’s twin, Tyler, goes to a party, Marvin decides to tag along to keep an eye on his brother. But what starts as harmless fun turns into a shooting, followed by a police raid. The next day, Tyler has gone missing, and it’s up to Marvin to find him. But when Tyler is found dead, a video leaked online tells an even more chilling story. Tyler has been shot and killed by a police officer. Terrified as his mother unravels and mourning a brother who is now a hashtag, Marvin must learn what justice and freedom really mean. Why I Need It Now: Not only is the cover absolutely stunning, but this book seems like the type of story that needs to be told right now. It seems like it’ll reveal the truth about race and police brutality, that doesn’t get talked about that often, in today’s media. I think this will be a very important and powerful story for young reader’s to read, in this day and age. I hope that this book will open people’s eyes about police brutality, because it is something that is unfortunately so prevalent in the world. I can’t wait to read this book, even though I know it’ll probably make me cry throughout it’s entirety.
While there are many more books that are coming out in March, these are the five that stood out to me the most. To me March seems like the month of creative worlds, which I am super excited about. A part from being a character driven reader, I also love a vast and diverse world. Which I feel like these books have, just by reading the synopsis. I can’t wait to get these books, and to do future review Diaries on them. Because I can already tell, that some of these books are going to become my favorites of the year!
Thank you all so much for reading! Let me know what books you are all excited about, that are coming out in the month of March!
TTFN, and Happy Reading!
