Hello everybody, and welcome back to another edition of The CW Torch. For this week’s post, I will be talking about all the adult novels, coming out in April, that I’m most excited for. There aren’t too many that really gripped me, but these are the five Adult novels that really stood out to me. Most of these books are already out except for a couple, so if you are interested in reading them, you can definitely go out and get them now. So, without further ado, let’s get into the books! Circe by Madeline Miller (April 10th, 2018)

Synopsis: In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter born. But Circe is a strange child — not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power — the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves. Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minortaur, Daedalus, and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Madea, and of course, wily Odysseus. But there is danger too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both man and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose once and for all, whether she belongs to the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love. Why I Need It: This has everything I love in one book, mythology and witchcraft. I feel like it’s been a good while, since a book dealing with mythology has come out. I have been obsessed with Greek Mythology since I was a child, and this book just sounds right up my alley. Also, that cover is everything!  Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jessel (April 17th, 2018)

Synopsis: Then She was fifteen, her mother’s, golden girl. She had her whole life ahead of her. And then, in the blink of an eye, Ellie was gone. Now it’s been ten years since Ellie disappeared, but Laurel has never given up hope of finding her daughter. And then one day a charming and charismatic stranger called Flloyd walks into a cafe and sweeps Laurel off her feet. Before too long she’s staying the night at this house and being introduced to his nine year old daughter. Poppy is precious and pretty — and meeting her completely takes Laurel’s breath away. Because Poppy is the spitting image of Ellie when she was that age. And now all those unanswered questions that have haunted Laurel come flooding back. What happened to Ellie? Where did she go? Who still has secrets to hide? Why I Need It: For some reason, the synopsis really drew me into this story. I used to love mystery thrillers when I was younger, and really want to get back into them. I think reading this book, will definitely help me get back into that mystery thriller mood. Other People’s Houses by Abbi Waxman (April 3rd, 2018)

Synopsis: At any given moment in other people’s houses, you can find… repressed hopes and dreams… moments of unexpected joy… someone making love on the floor to a man who is definitely not their husband. As the longtime local carpool mom, Frances Bloom is sometimes an unwilling witness to her neighbor’s private lives. She knows her cousin is hiding her desire for another baby from her spouse, Bill Horton’s wife is mysteriously missing, and now this… After the shock of seeing Anne Porter in all her extramarital glory, Frances vows to stay in her own lane. But that’s a notion easier said than done when Anne’s husband throws her out a couple of days later. The repercussions of the affair reverberate through the four carpool families — and Frances finds herself navigating a moral minefield that could make or break a marriage. Why I Need It: I think this book intrigued me in the same way, Then She Was Gone, did. I’ve been in the mood to read some thrillers lately, because I feel like a lot have been coming out recently. And it’s been a while, since I last read one. This one kind of gives me Big Little Lies vibes, which I still need to actually read, and just sounds like an interesting concept to me. My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Dray, Laura Kamoie and Stephanie Dray (April 3rd, 2018)

Synopsis: The story of Eliza Shuyler Hamilton — A revolutionary woman who, like her nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. This is the story that tells Eliza’s story as its never been told before, through moving and haunting letters and original sources. Telling the love story of Eliza and Alexander, through her written words. Why I Need It: I haven’t really gotten into the whole Hamilton hype, but it has been everywhere, and I feel I can only give into it, when I can actually watch the Broadway show. But, when I saw this book, it called out to me. It sounded like such an interesting book, especially since it tells Eliza’s story. I also want to get into more Historical Fiction’s, because I hardly read any.  The Home For Unwanted Girls by Joanna Goodman (April 17th, 2018)

Synopsis: The story of a young unwed mother who is forcibly separated from her daughter at birth and the lengths at to which they go to find each other. In 1950s Quebec, French and English tolerate each other with precarious civility— much like Maggie Hughes parents. Maggie’s English speaking father, has ambitions for his daughter that don't include marriage to the poor French boy on the next farm over. But Maggie’s heart is captured by Gabriel’s Phenix. When she becomes pregnant at fifteen, her parents force her to give baby Ellie up for adoption. Eloide is raised in Quebec’s impoverished orphanage system. Its a precarious enough existence that takes a tragic turn when Eloide, along with thousands of other orphans in Quebec, is declared mentally ill as the result of a new law that provides more funding to psychiatric hospitals than to orphanages. As time passes, the stories of Maggie and Elodie intertwine but never touch, until Maggie realizes she must take what she wants from life and go in search of her long-lost daughter, finally reclaiming the truth that has been denied them both. Why I Need It: I really want to get into more historical fictions, and this one really called out to me. The entire fact that Orphans in Quebec were seen as mentally ill, sounds really incredibly wrong yet very interesting to me. And I really want to know how Maggie and Elodie intersect in their lives.

Thank you all for reading, sorry it took me a while to get this up! But, this has been a really hectic work week. I hope everybody is exceeding expectations, during the OWL’s ReadAThon. I am currently reading, Neverwhere by Neil Giaman for Charms; and Cloaked in Shadow by Ben Alderson for Transfiguration.
