Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of The CW Torch! In my last post, I told you guys that I would be making some changes with my blog. One thing I missed most about my blog in the past, was talking about all of my favorite tv shows. Besides reading, I love watching TV, but I normally don't have anyone to talk about my tv shows with, with the exception of a select few. So, I thought it'd be fun to bring these blog posts back, in the hopes of recommending some new tv shows to those who read my blog. Hoping to find new people to talk about these tv shows with. Since, the Emmy's are coming up very soon, I thought it would be fun to talk about all of my favorite tv shows of the 2017/2018 season. I won't go into too much detail of the plot lines for these seasons, because I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't watched them, and because there’s a lot that I don't specifically remember. On another note, I will be talking about these shows in order of premiere date. So, without further ado, let's start talking about all of these amazing shows. Big Little Lies (HBO) - February 19th, 2017

Grade: A+ Synopsis: Big Little Lies tells the story of three emotionally troubled women in Monterey, California, who become involved in a murder investigation, at a function of their kids elementary school. My Thoughts: I instantly fell in love with this show, not knowing much about it going into it. All I really knew was that it was set in Monterey, California, and had an amazing cast of so many actors and actresses that I love. After the premiere aired, this show instantly made waves, and became one of the most talked about shows of that year. It was such an exceptional show, and one that I never saw myself watching. Not only was the acting absolutely amazing, and the cinematography visually stunning, but the story was just so emotionally telling. There were many things revealed in this story, that were extremely difficult to watch, but were extremely important to tell, especially with what was going on in Hollywood at the time. As it dealt very heavily with the theme of sexual and physical abuse. The writers dealt with this topic in a very dynamic and emotional way, but at the same time kept you guessing the entire time. The things these women were dealing with were very difficult to watch, but the actors portrayed the emotions so extremely well, that it became more than just a murder investigation series. I am very interested in seeing what they do with season 2, as it was originally supposed to be a mini series. I felt like the ending was very open-ended, and that they could do so much with it. I'm also hoping to read the book very soon, because I've heard the ending is very different from the television show. And, Meryl Streep is supposed to be in season 2, which I'm very excited about, even though this show has such a power cast of female actresses already. I would highly recommend this show to anyone, even if you don't normally watch these types of shows, like me, because it surprised me in so many ways. The Good Doctor (ABC) - September 25th, 2017

Grade: A Synopsis: The Good Doctor follows Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young savant autistic surgical resident at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. My Thoughts: This was one of my most anticipated premieres of this television season, however I was slightly disappointed in the premiere. I wasn't sure how I felt about the portrayal of autism, with learning so much about it in college. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to continue it or not, because of the representation. However, I ended up loving Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, which is one of the main reasons as to why I continued watching the show. I also, didn't love the other characters in the beginning, but some of them did grow on me. I think what really gravitated me towards this show, was that it reminded me a lot like House. It was very medicine focused, which I really enjoyed, because sometimes a lot of medical shows are jaded by all the drama attached to the storylines. However, I did think the drama they included in the show, was very real and relatable to actual medical practices, since they dealt with medical lawsuits and accountability. I loved learning about Shaun's childhood, even though it was extremely sad and heart-wrenching, and really enjoyed his romantic relationship. I'm really excited for season two of The Good Doctor, and would also highly recommend this show to any medical drama lovers. I think it is one of the most well-written medical drama's, since E.R. And House. This Is Us (NBC) - September 26th, 2017

Grade: A+
Synopsis: This Is Us follows the lives of siblings Kevin, Kate, and Randall, also known as the "Big Three," and their parents Jack and Rebecca Pearson. It takes place in the present and using flashbacks at various times in the past. Kevin and Kate are the two surviving members of a triplet pregnancy, their brother was stillborn. Rebecca and Jack believed that they were always meant to have three children, and adopt Randall. Randall was born on the same day as their children and brought to the same hospital after his biological father abandoned him at a fire station. My Thoughts: So much happened in season two, and a lot of it is spoilers, so I can't really go into too many details of this show. But, I can tell you that this is one of my favorite shows of all time. The writing is superb, the family dynamics are so relatable and extremely emotional, and the characters are so developed and real. This is an incredibly emotional show, one that you'll need some tissue paper for every single episode. I won't tell you much about season two, but if there was one character arc that I was really interested in last season. It would have to be Kevin's, I thought he was the main star of last season, with what he was going through. He was probably my least favorite characters of season one, and he is one of the most selfish and disrespectful kids during the flashbacks. But, it was so interesting to watch what he was going through in season two, because it was a direct reflection of his father, making it even more emotional. Justin Hartley did an amazing job at portraying that hardship and emotion. Another part of season two that I was really interested in, were the flash forwards, which they gave brief introductions to, towards the end of season two. We go way into the future, which I'm very curious about, because they revealed something very interesting during the finale. I will always recommend this show to everyone, because it is so extremely relatable. While it plays at your emotions, practically every episode, it is still an amazing show, and I can't wait until season three! Supernatural (The CW)- October 12th, 2017

Grade: A+ Synopsis: Do I really need to give a synopsis, after it's 13th season? "Saving people, hunting things, it’s the family business." My Thoughts: If I'm going to be honest, I've been really disappointed in the last couple of seasons of Supernatural. I wasn't sure if it's because the plot lines were getting repetitive, or the writing was getting slightly worse, or if I was just getting really bored with it? But, I've been watching this show for so long, that I couldn't give up on my favorite brothers that easily. I'm so happy that I continued on with season 13, because it has to be one of my favorite recent seasons. This season really reminded me of the good old days, when the boys were just hunting things to save people, why I basically fell in love with the show in the beginning. But, I think what really made me fall in love with this season, was one of our new stars of the show, Jack (Alexander Calvert). Jack is the Nephilim son of Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino), and human Kelly Kline. Jack reminded me so much of Castiel, when he first came onto the show, and I think that's why I really loved him so much. I also enjoyed this apocalyptic version of their world, and thought that was a really interesting storyline. However, if there was one aspect of last season that I didn't like, it would be the character arc of Mary Winchester. I really did not like her at all, and thought she was extremely selfish. I didn't think she treated her son's well, even under the circumstances she was put in, I definitely didn't appreciate the decisions she made for herself either. I think this was the season Supernatural needed, and I'm very much looking forward to season 14. I still can't believe that we are coming into season 14 of Supernatural, will this show ever end? I hope not. So, those were some of my absolute favorite shows of the Winter/Fall 2017-2018 season. I watched a lot of new television series, and some old favorites, but to me these were the cream of the crop. I am really looking forward to the next Fall television series, hoping that some of these shows will live up to their names. A few, new and old, honorable mentions that I really did enjoy, but weren't as good and promising as past seasons are; The Gifted season one, The Flash season four, and Stranger Things season one. I really enjoyed all three of these seasons, but I didn't think they were amazing enough to talk about in this post. I watched way more shows last season but I think I will make a second post, about my favorite Spring/Summer shows of 2018.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this post, it felt good to write about my favorite tv shows again. I look forward to writing more posts like this one in the future! TTFN and Happy Watching! Chynna Williams @TheCWTorch Social Media Platforms: Twitter- @chynnaw16 Instagram- @bigleaguephoto
