Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of The CW Torch. With the last four months of the year approaching us, I thought it was finally time to talk about the books I need to read by the end of this year. There are a lot of books I hope to complete by the end of the year, and most of them are sequels of series I began in 2019. As most of the final books in those series have recently come out, so I must catch up to finish those series. A lot of the books on this list are those that I've been putting off for a while and one's that I just need to read already. With all that being said, here are the books that I hope to finish by the end of 2020.

King of Scars (King of Scars duology #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Genre: YA Fantasy

Goodreads Synopsis:

I purchased the first book of the King of Scars duology as soon as it was released. I was so excited to get a copy as I have read Leigh Bardugo's, Six of Crows duology. A series I instantly fell in love with, and an author who soon became an auto-buy author for me. I still had to read the rest of the Grishaverse trilogy, as I had only read the first book of that series at the time this book came out. I have now since finished that trilogy, so it's finally time for me to read King of Scars. Especially, since the cover of the second book has been revealed. Also, because I have been wanting to complete every series within the Grisha world, before the new Netflix series comes out. Which is now probably pushed back at this time, due to COVID. I don't know why I keep putting this book on the back-burner, when it was such a highly anticipated read for me, as soon as it came out. Maybe it was due to the sheer size, or because I have such high expectations of it that I am nervous it won't be as good as I think. Whatever it is, I can't put it off any longer and need to finish it by the end of this year, especially now that the second book of the duology has been announced.

The Queen of Nothing (The Folks of the Air series #3) by Holly Black

Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy

Goodreads synopsis of The Cruel Prince:

Another book, I purchased as soon as it came out. As I have read the first two books in this YA Paranormal fantasy series, centered around cruel Fae. I grew up reading Holly Black's Spiderwick Chronicles, and loved her fantastical world which are almost always centered around Fae. She is truly the Queen of Fae, and this series has been very hyped up since the first book of this series, The Cruel Prince, came out. I didn't like The Cruel Prince as much as everyone else did, but the second book, The Wicked King, definitely grew on me. I've been wanting to see how this series ends ever since I finished The Wicked King, but it is always difficult for me to finish a series which you can probably tell from this list. So, I just kept putting it off, until now. I just recently picked up this book for a ReadAThon, so I am currently reading this book and so far it is picking up right where it left off. As The Wicked King left on a cliffhanger that I was not prepared for. So, hopefully by the end of this month, you will see more of my thoughts on the finale of this series.

Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2) by Laini Taylor

Genre: YA Fantasy

Goodreads Synopsis of Daughter of Smoke & Bone:

Another sequel to another fantasy series I started last year, which seems to be a trend with this list. I definitely want to try to finish series', I have been putting off for far too long by the end of this year. Mainly, so that I can start a bunch ofnew series in 2021, that I have been keeping my eye on. Days of Blood and Starlight is another sequel that I definitely want to try to finish so that I can read the third and final book of this amazing series. I instantly fell head over heals with the first book of this series and really want to continue the story of Karou, and the angels and demons she gets involved with. Not only do I want to finish this beautifully written series to see what happens to Karou. But, I also want to finish this trilogy so that I can read more of Laini Taylor's other works. She has instantly become a favorite author, because her writing is so lush and lyrical. A type of writing style that I have grown to love and find so beautiful. She paints a masterpiece of a world, and I can't wait to her Strange the Dreamer series which I have heard nothing but amazing things about.

Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle #3) by Jay Kristoff

Genre: Adult Fantasy

Goodreads Synopsis of Nevernight:

Much like The Cruel Prince, I had a tough time getting into this series. I really didn't get along with Jay Kristoff's writing style in Nevernight, I thought he was trying too hard to be witty and sarcastic. Not only that, but I also didn't enjoy the footnotes, I am not a huge fan of footnotes as they distract me from the rest of the story. Even though the footnotes are supposed to give background to the world and the characters. But, I guess I don't like footnotes, because I feel that you can input that into the actual story itself. However, while I didn't enjoy the first book of this series, the second book had so much growth. I grew to love the main character, Mia, who I didn't like much in the first book, broke my heart in the sequel. I fell in love with her and the relationships she had in the second book, that I needed to buy the third book instantly. Yet, once again, I have put off reading the final book of this trilogy, because I have heard nothing but amazing and tragic things about the finale. So, I've been extremely nervous and terrified to complete this series that surprisingly grew on me.

Uprooted and Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

Genre: New Adult Fantasy

Goodreads synopsis:

I am putting these two books together, because I kind of want to read these books back to back. Both of these books are fairy tale retellings, and I've heard nothing but amazing things about both of them. However, I have started Uprooted twice, but haven't been able to finish it. I am not sure why, as the story sounds like something I would absolutely love. Same with Spinning Silver, I have only heard amazing things about. I have a feeling Naomi Novik is going to be another favorite author, but much like a trend with the other books I've been talking about, I just keep putting these off and I am not sure why. But, hopefully, I can read both o these books by the end of this year, to read Naomi Novik's most recent release that sounds just as amazing!

There you have it folks, those are all of the books that I need to finish by the end of this year. I picked these book in particular, because many of them are series finales or continuations of series that I've just been putting off for no particular reason. A lot of them are also books that I instantly fell in love with, and just need to finish them. But, I haven't been able to read them, because other books have gotten in the way, and I've also been participating in a lot of readathon's this year and these books just haven't fit the prompts for those. But, I will definitely be putting these books as my top priorities to finish before 2020 ends.
