Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of The CW Torch. Today, I will be talking about my most anticipated book releases of September, 2020. Fall always brings in great new books, and there are a lot coming out in the next couple of months that I am anxiously waiting to get my hands on. I haven't done a most anticipated releases post in a while, but I thought now was the perfect time, with there being so many amazing books slated to come out in the next couple of months.

Blood & Honey (Serpent & Dove #2) by Shelby Mahurin

Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy

Release Date: Sept. 1st, 2020

When the first book of this series, Serpent & Dove, came out, I instantly purchased it. It had everything that I love about a YA paranormal fantasy. From 18th century witches, a church that has one sole mission to kill those witches, and a forbidden yet forced marriage. Everything about this book, sounded like something I would love. I love paranormal fantasies, especially when there is a forbidden love or enemies to lovers trope at the center of it. The setting of this series also interests me, as it is set in what I believe is 18th century, France. I have a weird obsession with witches, especially during this time when they were most feared. So, with all of this combined, I had a feeling Serpent & Dove was going to become a fast favorite. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to read it since buying the first novel. Yet, I plan on reading Serpent & Dove in October. So, if I end up loving it as much as I think I will, you know I will instantly be getting my hands on the second book of this series.

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

Genre: YA Fantasy

Release Date: Sept. 29th, 2020

This book is set in a school for the magically gifted. First of all, I automatically love any fantasy set in some sort of magic school. From The Magicians to Harry Potter, it is a setting I always gravitate towards when picking up any fantasy. I am not sure why that is, but I think I just love reading about students learning magic or being an apprentice in some sort of way. This book also has a chosen one trope, which for some people might be a tiresome trope. But, I absolutely love this type of trope. In this case the main character, El, possesses a dark power strong enough to level mountains and wipe out millions. A type of magic that can easily defeat the monsters that prowl the school, but there is the problem that her dark magic might also kill the other students. This to me is a chosen one trope that will have a lot of struggles, as it sounds like El will have to chose between using her power to kill the evil within the halls of this school. But, will it be worth it at the cost of losing some of the students. It sounds like just the type of book that I could easily fall in love with. Not to mention, I have heard a lot of amazing things about Naomi Novik, in fact, I have two of her other books at home but have yet to read. So, I am hoping to get to one of them to see if I fall in love with her writing as much as everyone else does. If all goes well, I will definitely be picking up this book in the near future.

The Silvered Serpents (The Gilded Wolves #2) by Roshani Chokshi

Genre: YA Historical Fantasy Fiction

Release Date: Sept. 22nd, 2020

This is the second book of a YA fantasy series, that I instantly fell in love with. The Gilded Wolves was a very controversial book as a lot of people thought it was basically a Six of Crows copycat. But, I honestly thought different, while there were a lot of similarities, I enjoyed both books for many different reasons. One thing I absolutely loved about The Gilded Wolves, were the extremely diverse group of characters. Which is something you can say about Six of Crows. However, I found that I enjoyed more of the characters in The Gilded Wolves a lot more than some of the characters in Six of Crows. I also thought the world of The Gilded Wolves was extremely unique and intriguing and was a world that had me thinking. Now, even though there may be a lot of controversy surrounding The Gilded Wolves, I absolutely adored it just as much as I adored Six of Crows. So, I am extremely excited to continue with this series, as I had know idea this second book was even coming out this year.

Horrid by Katrina Leno

Genre: YA Thriller / Mystery

Release Date: Sept. 15th, 2020

Now, I honestly couldn't tell you what this book is really going to be about, because I was left with a lot of questions when reading the synopsis. I can tell you that it may involve a mysterious New England house, with secrets hidden within it's halls. What gravitated me towards this book, was the setting, as it seemed like it's going to be the perfect Fall read. But, it also seems like there may be a deeper meaning to the book, as our main character discovers something interesting and a little bit odd about this house. When I read the synopsis, it gave me Beetlejuice vibes, which I absolutely love to watch during the Fall. However, it may seem like there is an underlying theme of mental illness within this book as well. Which has me so intrigued to pick up this book, when I don't read that many mysteries. Yet, something held my interest when I discovered this book on goodreads.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

Genre: YA Fantasy / Paranormal

Release Date: Sept. 1st, 2020

Witches, or in this case, brujo's, seems to be a major theme this Fall. Which, I am honestly so thrilled about and am here to read. As I said before, I absolutely love paranormal books, especially those centered around witches. Yet, not only does this book involve brujos, but it also deals with a boy discovering his sexuality and his Latinx family not accepting his gender. I have been reading a lot more Queer books recently, and a lot of them have been some of my favorite books of the year. So, when I found out that there was a Queer, Wiccan, fantasy story, I immediately had to add it to my to-be-read list.

There you have it folks, those are my most anticipated books coming out in the month of September. I am so here for all of the Fall vibes a lot of these books seem to have. Especially, what seems to be the resurgence of witches and paranormal fantasies. Which I feel like is a genre that hasn't been as popular within the last decade or so. I am not sure if I will be picking up any of these books this year, but I am definitely excited for a lot of them and will have my eye out on them for the near future.

Thanks for reading!
