Most Anticipated TV Series of the 2017/2018 Fall season:

Hello everybody, and welcome back to the CW Torch! Last week I gave you my top ten favorite television shows of the 2016/2017 season, as well as some honorable mentions. There were many standouts of current/renewed shows and a ton of amazing debut series! So, I thought for this next post, I would give you a list of my most anticipated shows for the Fall 2017/2018 television season! Without further ado, here are my top recommendations for the Fall 2017/2018 television season!

8) The Gifted (Fox) -

Debut Release Date: Monday, October 2nd.

When I first watched the trailer for The Gifted, I was immediately intrigued by this new Fox television series. Mainly, for two reasons; the first being that the graphics look amazing for it being a Fox cable network series. The second being; that it's a brand new Superhero series, and I do love my Superhero series more than I do Superhero movies. I don't know much about the X-Men comics, which is what this new television series is based on. The only X-Men movie I think I ever watched was X-Men: First Class, and I did enjoy that one. However, the main characters of this series, are characters I've never heard of. But, I am definitely interested in getting to know them, and hope that this show doesn't get canceled after the first four episodes. Because it does look very promising.

This show follows the premise of; two ordinary parents who take their family on the run from the government when they discover that their children have mutant abilities, and join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive. We follow the Strucker family; the father, Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) and the mother Caitlin Strucker (Amy Acker), who find out that their kids, Lauren Strucker (Natalia Alyn Lind) and Andy Strucker (Percy Hines White), have mutant abilities. Reed Strucker works with the government, who put these sorts of people away behind bars, but is forced to run from his government job, in order to protect his children. They join forces with this underground community of mutants, which includes; Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale), Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung), Lorne Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont), and John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford). I don't know too much about these X-Men characters, the only ones who sound familiar are Polaris and Thunderbird. But, I am really intrigued to know more about them and the Strucker's, in this new Sci-Fi, X-Men based series.

7) The Good Doctor (ABC) -

Debut Release Date: Monday, September 25th.

The Good Doctor is another debut ABC studios television series, developed by David Shore and Daniel Dae Kim, based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name. The series follows Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young pediatric surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who works at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

The reason this new debut series intrigued me, after watching the premiere trailer, was because of the discussion topics of Autism. I learned a lot about this disability, in my disability awareness class I took at Chico State. I don't think we talk about physical and mental disabilities in the media enough, so I was really interested in this show. Because, it was a different medical drama, than anything I've ever seen before. Not to mention the fact that it is set in San Jose and developed by the creators of House, so you know it's going to be good, because House was amazing. From the trailer we see Dr. Shaun Murphy at an airport headed to his new job in San Jose, he saves someone from an accident while at the airport. We also see that there may be some sort of law suit against Shaun, because of his disability. It is clear that people don't think that he should be a doctor because of his disability, mostly because of the fact that he thinks differently than most doctors. I think this is an important show that needs to be out right now, because not a lot of people are aware of these disabilities. And just because these individuals think differently than "normal" people, doesn't mean that they can't perform certain duties, successfully. I am very interested in this show, and hope that it teaches people about these disabilities in a new light.

6) AHS: Cult (Season 7, FX) -

Premiere Release: Tuesday, September 5th.

I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to put American Horror Story on this list, because I was extremely disappointed with season six. And as with every other season of AHS, we don't get much of what the series will be about, until the first couple of weeks leading to the premiere. They always give us a short teaser trailer to hint what the new season's theme is going to be, and then right before it premiere's they will give us a full trailer. So, when the first clip came out, I honestly had no idea of what AHS: Cult was going to be about. I tried looking up theories, but there weren't really any that I could find on the internet. However, I was able to stumble upon an article, mentioning that it will be taking place shortly after the inauguration of Donald Trump's election into presidency. But, the teaser trailer clip reveal of the season seven title, didn't really give much, except that somehow it was going to involve clowns.

I am usually always excited whenever a new season of AHS comes out, but I wasn't sure how to feel about this one, until the official trailer finally came out. I was very disappointed with season six, even though it did have the basis of a good and interesting premise. But, the story was kind of blah and the ending made no sense whatsoever. I am somewhat interested in this season, mostly because it looks like we'll be getting a lot more of Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, so that's always exciting. But, I am not sure how I feel about the clowns, because I am extremely terrified of clowns. Meaning, I will definitely be watching this season during the day, after it airs every Tuesday. It'll be interesting to see how the season kicks off today (September 5th), and if it'll be gripping enough for me to continue watching. But, if you readers have any theories or ideas of what this season is going to entail, please let me know! I would love to hear your thoughts, and in the mean time here is the official trailer for season seven!

5) Riverdale (Season 2, The CW) -

Premiere Release: Wednesday, October 11th.

After falling in love with Archie Andrews and the gang of Riverdale High. You couldn't imagine how I felt that we were getting a 22 episode season, of this Archie Comics based TV series. Obviously it made a huge impact to be able to get that 22 episode Fall season, after only one season. And I am so happy that we didn't have to wait until next January for season 2!

From the looks of the trailer and from watching all of the Comic Con panels, it seems like this is going to be an even darker season of Riverdale. Which I'm not even sure how that can be possible, considering season one was already pretty dang dark. We will picking up right where we left off at the end of the season 1 finale, when Archie's father gets shot at Pop's. And the main premise of the season, will be to figure out who shot him. It also looks like we'll be getting a lot more Jughead, even after he was forced to go to Southside High. So, it will be interesting to see how he will handle being at a new school alongside with the Southside Serpents, and being away from his friend group. Will he fit right on in, and what will this mean for Bughead fans? It also looks like we'll be getting a new and improved, darker and more twisted version of Cheryl Blossom. I am really intrigued to see her character development, after figuring out that her own father was the one who killed her brother Jason. Another plotline that will be interesting to see, is the dynamic of Veronica Lodge and her father, who will be returning to town from jail, for this second season. And how that will effect the steamy relationship of Veronica and Archie? I can't wait to see what happens this Fall, especially after last season's explosive finale. It'll be interesting to watch what twists and turns they'll be adding, now that the creators of Riverdale are getting a full season to work with!

4) The Flash (Season Four- The CW) -

Premiere Date: Tuesday, October 11th.

After what I thought was the best season of The Flash ever, I obviously had to add Season Four on my Most Anticipated releases of the 2017/2018 Fall season. During the season finale of The Flash season 3, we watched Barry Allen walk into the Speed-Force prison in place of Wally and Savitar. The team of S.T.A.R. Labs and The Flash defeated Savitar, and H.R. saved Iris' life, by having Savitar take his own life instead.

It's clear from the trailer, that we will be dealing with Iris' grieving process of losing Barry to the Speed-Force prison. Barry tells her to live her life, before going into the Speed-Force prison. But, Joe isn't sure why she has completely let go of Barry, worried that she isn't grieving properly. It also looks like Kid Flash aka Wally West, will be taking The Flash's place, until he returns from the Speed-Force prison. Iris West will be taking on more of an active role with S.T.A.R. Labs, now that Barry is gone. We will also be getting to see what new identity Caitlin Snow will be taking on, now that she is no longer Killer Frost or Caitlin Snow. It will be interesting to see her character development, especially after struggling to realize that she was Killer Frost, and having her powers completely take over her at the end of season 3. I am looking forward to see the new villains of this season, and what roles everybody will be taking now that Barry Allen is stuck in the Speed-Force prison!

3) Supernatural (Season 13 - The CW ) -

Premiere Release: Wednesday, October 12th.

While season 12 may not have been my most favorite out of all the past Supernatural seasons, I still can't believe that we will be getting a season 13 of Supernatural. That to me is enough of a reason to put this television series on my most anticipated list. So, I was unable to find an official trailer for season 13, and can't tell you much about the upcoming season. I can tell you that we will be seeing the Winchester boys struggling, on how to deal with Lucifer's nephilim offspring, Jack. I can also tell you that Castiel will be coming back for season 13. But, that's about all I can tell you, because I wasn't really able to find a whole lot, not even the San Diego Comic Con panel gave me much to work with. But, if there is one more thing I can tell you, it's the fact that I am extremely excited for a new season of the Winchester brothers. And that it doesn't look like Supernatural will end anytime soon. At least not until either Jared Padelecki or Jensen Ackles say that they want a break or to leave the show. Which, I don't see happening anytime soon.

2) This Is Us (Season Two, NBC) -

Premiere Release: Tuesday, September 26th.

After watching this little clip, it is clear how much of an impact This Is Us made to all of its viewers. It was an extremely powerful and moving show, dealing with many issues that a lot of us can relate to. I think that's why This Is Us is so special, and why it moved me to the core. I was unable to find a trailer for season two on youtube, so I can't tell you what we'll be seeing for the upcoming season. Season One was very memorable and extremely heartbreaking, that I know season two won't disappoint in that department. It is clear from the finale that we'll be seeing how Randall and his family will be moving on after William's death. Hopefully, we'll also figure out what happened that night of Jack's accident, and if that was the real night of his death. I'm also interested in seeing if Kevin will be able to make his relationship last longer than a few weeks, being reunited with his childhood girlfriend and almost fiancé. This Is Us was one of my favorite shows of last season, and I am more than excited for season two and to see if it will live up to season one standards.

1) Stranger Things (Season Two, Netflix) -

Premiere Release: All Episodes out, October 27th.

After season one's amazing breakout season, it was extremely easy to put Stranger Things Season Two as my number one most anticipated series of the 2017-2018 Fall season. And of course it will be coming out at the perfect time, around Halloween. After watching the new Comic Con release trailer, I can tell you that season two will definitely exceed expectations from season one, especially with that Thriller background music. It looks like The Upside Down will be overtaking Hawkins at full force, and Will Byers will be at the center of it all. We'll be getting some new and mysterious characters, that we'll have to watch out for. And also an alien-like force that will be taking over Hawkins, Indiana. Oh yeah, and Eleven will be making a return to Hawkins, and won't be stuck in The Upside Down forever. Season two looks bigger and even better than before, and I can't wait to binge it over Halloween. So, who else is as excited as me and these kids right here for Stranger Things Season 2?

There you have it folks, my most anticipated shows of the 2017/2018 Fall season. I hope this gave you all some insight of what to look out for the next television season. I am extremely excited to talk about these shows as they progress over the Fall and into Spring of next year, and hope that this season will be just as good as last season. Now, I know I wasn't able to dive into too much detail of what the next seasons will be about. But, if you are interested in learning about past seasons, you are more than welcome to check out my favorites of 2016/2017 television season. I go into a little bit more detail of the previous seasons, of some of these shows. So, hopefully that'll give you some insight of what some of these shows are all about! Anyways, thank you so much for reading this blog-post, and I look forward to posting another one some time soon!

TTFN,
