“Chasing That Feeling” MV in Review

“Chasing That Feeling” begins like a Marvel movie. It almost looks like an ad with someone taking a phone call and then BOOM, a meteorite hits New York City. Tomorrow X Together emerges from the New York drainage system like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The music starts with Beomgyu’s ethereal voice and the real magic begins with fun choreography deep in sewage water. In the rest of the music video, the boys show off their magical powers and in-sync dance moves in the streets of New York, feeling out of place in the real world. They are trying to “chase that feeling” they had when on Magic Island, which they were for the majority of “The Name Chapter: Temptation.”

For those who don’t know, Tomorrow x Together has a very long and in-depth storyline that I won’t get into, because we could be here all day if I were to explain it. But, I will share some links that dive deeper into their storyline. In short, this music video showcases them as superheroes back in reality while trying to blend into society but wanting to be back on Magic Island.

The song itself lies within the synth-pop genre and takes samples from A-Ha’s “Take On Me.” It also feels like a sister song to their hit off their Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child album, “Thursday’s Child Has Far to Go.” “Chasing that Feeling” sets the stage for the story this album is trying to tell, which is essentially the boys trying to rediscover and deal with their feelings of being back on Earth. While there is a sense of magic, as there is with a lot of TxT songs, this song is very catchy and leans more into that “Westernized” pop. I’ve been playing this song and this album on repeat since its release on October 13th.

The Name Chapter: Freefall Album Review

1. “Growing Pains”

This song showcases a new genre that TxT has tapped into which is hard 90s rock. It gives you the feeling of listening to a classic rock song with a 90’s edge. TxT has done rock before with "Loser=Lover," "Frost," and "I Know I Love You." But, this song feels fresh as they have tapped into a new side of their vocals which continues to grow with each album. Growing Pain shows their range as artists but still feels very TxT.

2. “Back For More” (TxT version— Produced by Ryan Tedder)

A few months back, TxT performed Back For More feat. Brazilian pop singer Anita during the MTV VMA awards. That version had a Brazilian feel to it infused with Michael Jackson adlibs and dance moves. For this albumt hey added a fully TxT version which has more of a K-pop sound to it. It’s almost the same lyrically but with a few new verses and is all TxT. This may be the most pop-like song on the album, but it again shows their range vocally. The choreography matches the fun vibe with a bunch of Michael Jackson references mixed in between.

3. “Dreamer”

Just like the title states, this song is very dreamy and showcases a more R&B style to TxT. Most of this song is sung in Falsetto and their voices are smooth and sultry just like the melody. While a lot of these songs are true pop this one felt like a totally different genre. It reminded me of one of their older songs, “Fairy of Shampoo.” It felt like we were being transported to a new storyline in the album and floating in the clouds of Magic Island. This song again shows their range and that they can take on many different genres.

4. “Deep Down”

A new genre we haven’t seen from TxT yet which is house music. “Deep Down” immediately makes you feel like you are dancing at a club. TxT has yet to show that they can do house music but this song proves that they can do just about anything. It’s a fun, upbeat tempo song that gets your feet tapping.

5. “Happily Ever After”

Right off the bat, this song sounds like another upbeat pop song. But listening to the production and the vocal range this group has, this was more than just a regular pop song. “Happily Ever After” reminded me of “Happy Fools” feat. Coi Leray, off their “Name Chapter: Temptation” album. A purely fun song to get up and dance to and just like the song states it is pure happiness.

6. “Skipping Stones”

“Skipping Stones” feels like another new genre for these five boys which is a common theme throughout this album. When listening to this song, it almost has the same feel of a 90s indie/rock song. This is probably my favorite song off the album, and trust me it’s hard to pick a favorite because of the vast array of genres. But I used to really be into this genre and still listen to it every now and again when I’m not listening to K-Pop. This song reminded me of that genre I love, which is why I think I love it so much.

7. “Blue Spring”

“Blue Spring” was first performed during the Act: Sweet Mirage tour and I instantly fell with it. I also got to see this song performed live when I saw them in concert for their Act: Sweet Mirage tour. It’s another dedication to their fan's song which they’ve only done a few times now. I didn’t think we would get it on an album since I thought it would be another secret song. I was extremely excited to see it on the album because it’s such a beautiful song. “Blue Spring” is a more emotional song that captures the boy's dreamy/fantasy quality.

8. “Do it Like That” (feat. The Jonas Brothers, produced by Ryan Tedder)

When TxT announced this song over the Summer, I was thrilled. I have stanned The Jonas Brothers since middle school and Tomorrow X Together is my second favorite K-pop group next to BTS. This song is tailor-made for me and even more so with Ryan Tedder as the producer and writer. I also grew up an avid One Republic fan so whenever I see Ryan Tedder on a K-Pop song I get very excited. This is another song like “Happily Ever After” one that you just want to dance to. You can distinctly tell the vocal differences between the two groups but again it shows their versatility as artists as this one had more of a vintage pop sound to it.

Overall, The Name Chapter: Freefall is a 10/10 and a no-skip album for me. I might be biased because Tomorrow X Together is my second favorite K-pop group. But what I love about them is that they always try to push themselves genre-wise. They have proved they can take on any genre but still have each song sound purely like “Tomorrow X Together.” Their vocal range and production value get better and better with every comeback. Looking at this album as a whole it might be my favorite off their discography but again it’s hard to tell because their entire discography is so good. But I see a lot of depth and growth in this album and with “Tomorrow X Together” and it makes me excited for the next comeback.

PS. thank you to everyone for bearing with me on this review. It. took me a long time to complete it because I was extremely busy in October.
